Pak Zul and his dedicated committee have done a great job in compiling our first yearbook. May this be the first in a long line ofyearbooks. I realize that this project was a last-minute decision, and a rush job, so that ithe final product is not perfect. But what else can you get for Rp75,000, that is long-lasting and full of memories?

This yearbook is essentially a photorecord of your schoolmates for TA 2008/09 by class. There are a few activities, but only where these are class activities, This situation likely came about because a teacher from each class is on the committee. There was no representation from PE or music, departments that are active in various activities.

Next year, I propose the following:
Only one staff member on the committee and that person in an advisory role only. (Pak Zul is an obvious choice.)
Early in the school year, say by the end of August, a team of senior students take up positions of editor-in-chief, sports editor, arts editor, major events editor, school development editor, olympic games editor, class editors for PG, TK, SD, SMP, SMA, business manager, etc.
Students set objectives of number of pages per class, pages for events, stressing student achievements, olympic games etc, and work on these throughout the year.
Plan on a more complete record of the year; double the size and double the cost is still very reasonable.

Again, thanks, Zul for taking the initiative and producing a great yearbook.

I have some names already: J. Evanson from sixth grade, and K. Erning from tenth grade for designers or editors. They also can play the techie role.
I might scout those who like photography and make sure they are posted in the right time and the right place this year.
I will decide who will be in charge for marketing yearbook and ad pages after brainstorming with the chosen students. Since, I am not a big fan on discovery learning, I might want to provide a counsel (Ibu Rika) for them so it is closer to “guided inquiry”. At this moment, I have no idea which people to be chosen
. But I am sure by digging info from the students and glancing students on pluto, it’ll be clearer.
Regular and extensive meetings are also unnecessary. I like discussing most important matters with the keypeople only to solve problems. Only for “ceremonial” or “crucial” matters, then meeting will be called.
We should anticipate the bulging cost next year (I predict it will be at least 200% increase). People want to pay more if it’s worthy and the room for improvement is large. So, I target these main improvements:
- 0% of mispelling
- 80% student involvement
- 150 books sold
- more attractive and more elegant design
- better quality material
- better quality pictures
- more informative and more memorable contents

)
2. Ibu Rika, Ibu Niniek, and Ibu Nur for helping me selling ad spaces.
3. Ibu Geni, for typing the notices.
4. Pak Sigit and Pak Tito for designing nice pages.
5. J. Evanson and K. Erning, for making me believe student involvement in yearbook can actually work.
6. Ibu Adriani for mental and organizational support (Great thanks bu I need it).
7. Teachers who submit attractive designs, self-check the spelling of their class pages and don’t miss any of your student’s photo.

Zul,
You seem to be missing my point. I would like to see the next yearbook produced by students, with a minimum of staff interference. Trust them. They can do it. They will do it.

It’s not that, I personally am sure they can do better because they are relatively more intelligence, updated, energetic, & creative than the teachers. But I want to be careful particularly in letting them representing SBR in approaching clients for ad space & donation. They need to learn some conducts in marketing. Because if they can’t control their emotion and communicate unpleasantly with the clients, the effect is irreversible, apology would never enough. I am not ready to expose them to the real marketing job.
However, I will support this plan all the way. I will invite students who are interested in a meeting. I deliver this idea and let them mix it with theirs. I will share my experience about how a yearbook can happen last year. Then I want to hear them criticizing the first yearbook and building plan for the second one based on the reflection of the first. I will watch and see how far they can take this plan in a month (I will accelerate the process by bringing the issue up).
