This is my Earth Day contribution. This isn’t new; but I just encountered it today. Blackle is essentially Google with a black background, because more power is required to display a white background, than a black screen. It has been calculated that about 750 Megawatt-hours per year could be saved if Google switched their homepage from white to black. There are around 22 different versions of “black google” online. The best one I’ve found is http://www.cleanblack.com. Cleanblack is the only version that allows you to change the text colors of the google search results. Try it yourself by going to http://www.cleanblack.com/theme/
